The Mogul Mom Features…Judy Laliberte of Laliberte Photography

n674457922_9311What is your name & how many children do you have?

My name is Judy and I have 3 daughters ages 12, 11 and 9.

What’s the name of your company and the inspiration behind it?

My business is Laliberte Photography and the inspiration behind it is my family! At the young age of 7, I owned my first camera.  My first creative works were with my stuffed animals in the backyard swing…fascinating work LOL!  Years (ummm MANY years) later, I went to college and law school.  I met the man of my dreams (cue the violins) and we started our family.  His job required lots of travel and we decided it would be best if I became an at-home mom.  During that time, my passion for photography grew stronger since I had the most adorable subjects to practice on.  Well, after hearing “you could do this professionally” and after my husband said “how much more camera equipment do you think you want to buy”, I decided I should make a go of it!  I took classes at the Rhode Island School of Design, signed up for seminars, and joined some great on-line photography communities.

What is your current business struggle?

Networking, marketing, keeping organized.

What is your current business goal?

Expand the maternity and newborn section of my business.

What one quality do you think is a “must-have” for a mom entrepreneur?

Determination to succeed (and a full pot of coffee!)

What one thing or person has been very instrumental in your success?

My husband has been supportive every step of the way.  He might wonder why I need 3 camera bodies and 8 lenses and another backdrop, but he never gives me a hard time when he hears “Honey, I have another project for you!”

What are your 3 favorite blogs?

The Pioneer Woman

Photo Lovecat

Allrecipes  Great place for recipes, especially crock pot recipes  (I personally think a crock pot is the MUST have kitchen contraption for busy moms!!)

What is your favorite quote?

“To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong.” –Joseph Chilton Pearce

What advice would you give to a new mom entrepreneur?

Have a plan, both a long term one and a day-to-day one, and stick to it.  It’s very easy to get side-tracked by reading emails/returning phone calls/catching up on Facebook and Twitter.  Also, opening a business isn’t a matter of “if you build it they will come.”  You can be a great photographer (or have a great idea for a product) but if you don’t have an ounce of business sense, you will have a tough time succeeding.

How can we connect with you? (Email, Twitter, Facebook, The H.O.D., website, etc.)

Judy… you’re blessed with a wonderful husband, love your favorite quote and advice (must get a crock pot), but especially appreciate your sense of humor… a character must-have to survive a “Mogul Mom” life.=)

Thank you for sharing your insight,
Ros =)

Thank you Heather and Judy for your inspirational interview. You are so right about getting sidetracked with social media. It’s so important to have a plan, stay focused, and stay balanced with social media and moving the business forward.

Cheers Ladies & Hi Ros!
