6 Social Media Managers for Busy Mom Entrepreneurs

Let’s face it–mom entrepreneurs are some of the busiest people out there, knee-deep in diaper changes & lightbulb moments,  and simultaneously building a Lego castle and a social media brand.

Here are 6 of my favorite social media managers for busy mom entrepreneurs. These tools will help you be a  social media butterfly even while you’re (gasp!) not sitting bug-eyed in front of the computer.

1. Twitterfeed makes it easy-peasy to send your blog posts directly to Twitter. Twitterfeed’s servers check your blog’s feed at the specified interval and posts any new items to Twitter. You just sit back and relax while Twitterfeed shares your blog posts with your followers on Twitter!

2. FriendFeed enables you to keep up-to-date on the web pages, photos, videos and music that your friends and family are sharing. It offers a unique way to discover and discuss information among friends.

Sign up for FriendFeed, invite some friends, and get a customized feed made up of the content that your friends shared — from news articles to family photos to interesting links and videos.  FriendFeed automatically imports shared stuff from sites across the web, so if your friend favorites a video on YouTube, you get a link and a thumbnail of the video in your feed. And if your friend likes a news story on Digg, you get a link in your feed. FriendFeed makes all the sites you already use a little more social.

It’s also fast and easy to start discussions around shared items. On FriendFeed, you and your friends contribute to a shared stream of information — information that you care about, because it’s from the people that you care about.

You don’t need to install anything to use FriendFeed. But if you already use Facebook, you can add their Facebook application to connect your Facebook profile to all the other products you use around the web. You can also view your FriendFeed in your iGoogle homepage or read it in a feed reader. If you make your FriendFeed publicly visible (kind of like a blog that writes itself), you can embed your feed in your home page or blog.

3. TweetLater’s tagline is “productivity tools for busy tweeple” and it’s dead-on. TweetLater has quite an array of social media tools that are not just for Twitter anymore! Some of my favorites are:

  • Schedule tweets–this is great for mogul moms who have a promotion, sale, discount or news that they’d like to tweet at a special date. Even better for those mom entrepreneurs that I hate who actually take a vacation once in a blue moon.
  • Opt out of automated DMs–despise all those automated “Thanks for following me, now go visit my blog & purchase my $4000 get-rich-quick snakeoil” DMs? Well, darnit! You can OPT OUT of them using TweetLater!
  • Manage multiple Twitter accounts. If you’re a serial entrepreneur like me, you’ll appreciate being able to multi-tweet using ALL your Twitter accounts from one dashboard! (For the record, the only Twitter accounts that I currently have are @TheMogulMom and @TheDudeDog–my 12yo Boxer/Shepherd social media hound!)

4. Facebook Friend Lists really makes it easy to organize your Facebook friends, especially for those mogul moms who use FB for both personal and professional socialization. Now you can group your friends into categories like “High School”, “I have no idea who this is but they seem to know me” and “My Tweeps”. ;)

5. TweetChat helps put your blinders on to the Twitter-sphere while you monitor and chat about one topic. TweetChat is perfect for those times when you want to join in on the fun (#gno, #oneword, #americanidol) or the business building conversations (#socialmedia, #TMECoopShop, #tweetdeck).

Each tweet you make automatically gets a hashtag (#) added for the room you are in – no need to worry about hashtag typos. The room auto-updates with new posts using the hashtag you are following – no need to reload.

6. TweetDeck is your personal browser for staying in touch with what’s happening now, connecting you with your contacts across Twitter, Facebook and more. TweetDeck shows you everything you want to see at once, so you can stay organized and up to date.

Here are just a handful of cool things you can do with TweetDeck:

  • Tweet directly from TweetDeck
  • Stay up to date – view all new tweets in real-time
  • Use columns to create your personal dashboard
  • Create Groups to easily follow friends, colleagues or other interest groups
  • Update Facebook and follow your Facebook friends
  • Follow topics in real-time with saved searches
  • View @replies and direct messages and manage your conversations

I hope these 6 Social Media Managers help you continue building your social media brand, even in the midst of temper tantrums, playdates, diaper changes, tween angst and the sheer exhaustion & exhilaration of mom entrepreneurship.

So, of course, I found your Tweet while checking both of my Twitter accounts! Will have to go check out TweetLater. Thanks again for reminding me there is an easier way!

Great post! I just started using TweetDeck last week and it has change my Tworld (twitter world!) lol! Question: Do people really despise automated DMs? I get a lot of them and started to wonder if I was out of the loop and should have one myself – but I don’t want to do it if people really don’t want to receive them. Thoughts?
