Friday Link Love: W3Schools.com

by Heather Allard on April 3, 2009

ts-geekIn my ongoing effort to Be the Wizard, I recently decided to try to learn a bit of HTML (HyperText Markup Language). Geeky, I know–but helpful if you’re trying to save money by not having a programmer do every little thing on your website or blog.

So, I Googled “HTML” and up came 13, 390, 000, 000 results. Seriously. The first was Wikipedia’s definition of HTML. The second was titled “HTML Tutorial” and said that I’d find more than 100 examples of HTML that I could learn & test on my own. Sounded perfect & I clicked on it.

It brought me to W3Schools.com, a site loaded with free web building tutorials on HTML, CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), JavaScript and more.

I fell in love with W3Schools.com because they make it very simple to learn HTML (and everything else they teach) by explaining the code, giving you examples of implementation and then showing you how to do it on your own.

In very little time, I learned how to:

  • Create email links on my blog & blog posts
  • Center images
  • Make text & backgrounds different colors
  • Change fonts & font sizes within the same paragraph
  • Format paragraphs
  • So much more!

If you don’t want to wait for a programmer or pay a programmer to make every change for you, then let your inner geek out & become a student of W3Schools.com!

Thank you so much Heather! I am in the process of trying to figure everything out about HTML myself and this is super helpful! I love this site.

I consider myself pretty good with HTML coding, but I saw some things on here that I have never heard of! Thanks for posting!

Cool, Heather! I’ll be checking that out. I’m terrible at HTML. I’ve followed tutorials before, but I always need to check my cheat sheet. Maybe this resource will spell it out better for me – I’m so not technologically inclined!

Thanks Heather. I had not yet seen that one yet. Another great resource is Lynda.com. Lots to learn here and at CSS Typeset, http://www.csstypeset.com/.

Good Luck!
