For months now, Jennifer Fong has been talking to us about how to build your social media brand and she names blogs as one of the top ways to do that.
Since starting The Mogul Mom blog in 2007, I’ve spent a great deal of time educating myself on how to create a successful blog. I’ve read books, participated in online tutorials and most recently, completed a blogging workbook called “31 Days to Build A Better Blog” created by ProBlogger Darren Rowse.
31 Days to Build a Better Blog is a downloadable e-book designed to help you strengthen your blog by giving you 31 tasks meant to help you improve your blog and engage your readers more through different types of posts. Tasks included writing, promotion techniques, methods to deepen reader engagement, creative thinking exercises, ideas for breaking through bloggers block and much more.
5 Reasons Why I Loved 31DBBB:
- Affordability–at just $19.95 for 94 pages of content, it’s a great bargain. And though there are 31 tasks in the ebook, you can easily repeat them to further fortify your blogging skills.
- Pick your pace–as a busy blog writer and mother of three, I really loved 31DBBB because it allowed me to go at my own pace, doubling up on tasks on the weekends when I have more free time and skipping around a bit to find the tasks that would challenge me more at this time. The tasks don’t need to be done in any particular order or timeframe, which is perfect for mom entrepreneurs.
- Learning style–I learn best by studying a subject and then putting what I’ve learned into practice with specific tasks and that’s exactly how 31DBBB is set up. Each day, Darren gives instruction on the how and why of the day’s task and then your “assignment” is to complete that task.
- Format–I love a good workbook that I can dog-ear, highlight and write in. I’ve done online seminars before and though I learned alot, there’s just something about having an actual, physical book in front of me that I love. 31DBBB not only has 31 tasks, it also has bonus material (extra tips, questions & reflections) AND note areas where you can record your ideas and make plans to implement the lessons.
- Results–Darren’s not known as “ProBlogger” for nothin’.
In 31DBBB, Darren teaches you proven methods of improving your blog and engaging your readers. Since completing 31DBBB, I’ve noticed an increase in traffic and it’s helped me hone my blogging mission.

“Each day for 31 days readers are presented with a daily task and teaching to give them concrete ways to take their blogs to the next level – the goal being more readers, higher quality content, deeper reader engagement and higher levels of creativity and energy for the blogger.”
If you’re looking for a fun way to get started on a new blog or breathe new life into an existing blog, I highly recommend 31 Days to Build a Better Blog.
After all, just because the kids aren’t in school doesn’t mean we’re not–I’ll be using my 31DBBB workbook all summer long and I know you will too.

I participated in Dareen’s 31 days to a better blog – there was so much great information! I actually saved all the emails so that I can refer back to them at a later time. ProBlogger is a fantastic resource if you’re a blogger – definitely check it out!

Holly,
Have a great weekend.
I did the online version too and it was so much fun. But I really love the workbook–I’ve written so many ideas for posts in the notes section and I bring it with me in the car so when I’m waiting in the schoolyard for my daughters, I can be working on it!

I know you’ll love it, Sean. By the way, read your bio–definitely embrace the name Sean. It’s awesome for a boy OR a girl. My brother’s name is Sean and my sister’s name is Leslie–another name that can be for a boy or a girl.

I look forward to getting to know you better!!

I am a newbie mom entrpreneur and also new to Mogul Mom, I am trying to develop a blog for a month, I came across this review. All this sounds good but I am wondering is this guide first of its kind or book stores already carry these type of guides?? I am not skeptical but just curious.:):)

Hi Monika,
I’ve read a couple of books about blogging (Darren Rowse wrote one called ProBlogger: Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income) and I’m sure there are a TON of them out there–but I really like 31DBBB because it teaches you different types of posts that will increase your audience, engage your audience more or both. The blogging books I’ve read teach you how to set up a blog, different “tools” to use, how to monetize your blog, etc whereas 31DBBB challenges the blog writer who has already done the “set up” and now is looking to attract, increase and engage their audience.
I hope this helps!! By the way, I’m always “curious” too.
Have a great weekend!

I loved the online version of this blog challenge. It motivated me and held me accountable, which was very helpful when juggling life, kids and a business. I have saved all of the posts and need to go back and start over
One of my favorite ideas was to make a blog topic spreadsheet where I could enter post ideas into different days of the week. Instead of feeling “analysis paralysis”, I can see and organize all of my ideas, and then check them off as I write them. Thanks for telling other people about the challenge – they will be so grateful!

Michelle,
Thanks for your comment!
You’re right–the idea spreadsheet is awesome! Something similar–WordPress has a plugin called “Post Ideas”, which is kind of the same thing but built right into your WP dashboard.
