by Heather Allard on August 27, 2009

Trying to find that sweet spot between mom and entrepreneur? Subscribe to The Mogul Mom's free weekly email and learn how to live & work happier, healthier, smarter & wealthier.

I’m excited to announce that I’ve teamed up with Daily Grommet to hold a contest to find the next Grommet.   We know you Mogul Moms have created or know of some fabulous and innovative products,  so tell us about them here on The Mogul Mom Daily Grommet Contest for a chance to win.  Daily Grommet has a great prize for the winner and your product could become a Grommet!

What’s Daily Grommet?

Daily Grommet tells the story and sells one fresh product find every day.  Our story is really simple…because it’s not about us. It’s about finding really fresh products and telling their stories. Those products, their creators, and the people who love them (the products, that is) are the real heroes at Daily Grommet.  This is your chance to be one of our heroes!

What’s a Grommet?

  • It’s a wonderful product still waiting in the wings, just ripe for discovery.
  • It has great utility, or style, or invention. Or, very often it has all three.
  • It comes from a designer, or inventor, or artist, or manufacturer who is clearly passionate about what they create. Someone who loves to share their creations and talk to people about why they do what they do.
  • It comes from a company that treats its customers well.
  • Finally, like any intelligent or beautiful product, it has a great story, ready to be told.

Let’s Talk Grommets Contest

The contest runs from August 27, 2009 to September 27, 2009.

How to enter:

  1. Check out www.DailyGrommet.com to see what they’re all about and to get a sense of what Grommets (products) they feature. Product categories that interest them:  Art, Books/Music, Children’s Items, Clothes/Accessories, Décor, Food/Drink, Health/Beauty, Household, Jewelry, Gifts for Men, Seasonal Items and Stationery.
  2. Post a comment here with your favorite Grommet candidate and a link to it so we can check it out — this could be a product, accessory or gadget that you already have, one that you invented or produce yourself,  or one you covet.
  3. Include in your comment details of what you love about this product and why you think it would make a great Grommet.

And the winner is…

When the contest ends, a panel of Daily Grommet Product Discovery and Community team members and I will go through all the posts and select our favorite one that is the most unique, unexpected, and creative or one that solves a problem.  Daily Grommet has a great prize for the winner and if it’s decided the product is Grommet-worthy, Daily Grommet will make it a Grommet, feature it on DailyGrommet.com and sell it for you!  You could also appear on the Grommet video.

Good luck and have fun with this!

Awesome, Jules…thanks so much! I’m so excited about this–such a fun contest with a cool site like Daily Grommet.

May the best Grommet win. ;)

One other thing…when you check out our site, be sure to hit the “Shop more Grommets” button. Otherwise you won’t have a sense of the range of categories we cover…it’s helpful to see specific Grommets we still offer from our catalog.

I think This is Me – a kid’s first keepsake journal would make a perfect Grommet! As a busy mother of three, I found I didn’t have time to document my children’s lives with a labor-intensive (and expensive!) scrapbook. I have fond childhood memories of journaling with my own mother so I sought out a “prompt” journal I could use to carry on that tradition. I couldn’t find the “perfect journal” so I created my own!

I would like to submit Kookie Stationery to become the next Daily Grommet! They’re edible cookie stationery cards and notes are unlike anything I have ever seen. They are totally original, completely useful, and lovely to look at and taste.

6 Cynthia ~ The Diaper Clutch August 27, 2009 at 4:08 pm

I’m going to submit The Diaper Clutch as the next Daily Grommet. There are tons of diapers and wipes cases out there but none like the Diaper Clutch! It has a unique easy-access window for the wipes so it makes diaper changing much easier! With a baby that won’t sit still this comes in handy quite a bit! No more fumbling with your diaper and wipes holder to get the wipes out! I think a lot of moms (and dads!) would benefit from this great product!
Thanks!

Knotty Knotes are the next big thing!

They are colorful knote pads bound with a knot of color coordinating ribbon. Each Knotty Knote is hand tied in Fort Worth, Texas by a mom-preneuer who took the adorable Knotes to the Dallas market last summer to cheers of “We LOVE them… but we’re not picking up any new lines in this economy…”

WELL FRIENDS, the economy is coming back strong. Knotty Knotes are available in color combinations to match any school, club, sorority or holiday!

Every Knotty Knote is custom, choose what’s the best fit for you!

8 Jules Pieri August 27, 2009 at 9:56 pm

Oooo…keep ‘em coming guys. These are sounding great! And we say fie! on the economy….people like the Knotty Knotes folks and the Diaper Clutch, and Kookie and This is Me are going to bring the economy back to life. They create jobs and rich, meaningful products.

And, TummyTankz extends far beyond pregnancy & nursing offering a fun way to spice up any outfit easily. Wear as tube top, hipster, layered look or create your own style.

I’d like to submit our multi-media children’s picture books for the Daily Grommet. As busy mums we know that the more our children are exposed to reading the more their literacy skills improve. Yet we have so many other things we need to fit into our day and it is sometimes easier to plonk the kids in front of the TV to get the chores done. Our electronic books bring the magic of books and reading to life for young children. Now screen time can be fun and educational too. Specifically designed to be easy to navigate for little ones the story can be watched as the audio reads aloud and the words highlight in time to the audio, modeling fluency just as you would if you were running your finger under the text. Or if your little one is an emerging reader they can read the book to themsleves and click on an unfamiliar word to hear it spoken without adult intervention. The beautiful illustrations come to life through animation encouraging even the most reluctant of readers to stay and read. And at the end there is a multiple choice quiz to check for comprehension/recall. There are a number of games on the site and a jokes section – as reading jokes is STILL reading. Books can be viewed online or downloaded to a PC. All the books have a view inside feature before purchase and the site is completely free of advertising.
Literacy is a key concern, recently discussed by President Obama, and the more children are exposed to reading the more their literacy skills increase. And when kids are having fun they may not even know they are learning! ;-)

How funny to see the old Rambler in your video! My mother owned the same car (in burgundy even) when my dad met her. Sorry for my previously obnoxious link. I forgot the end tag. It should have looked more like this:

I would like to nominate my own dad’s product for the Daily Grommet. OZOFire is a clean, green bio-fuel for indoor ventless fireplaces. After my dad bought an indoor fireplace, the alcohol that the manufacturer recommended be used started giving him horrible headaches from the release of the toxic fumes. While looking for a safe fuel, he learned that bio-ethanol fuels must be approved by the TTB and Department of Transportation (DOT), a lengthy process – and therefore were virtually non-existent. Many beautiful fireplaces are being sold in the USA without a source for a certified safe fuel, so he saw this as an opportunity. With the help of his chemist friend, they developed a clean-burning, eco-friendly, safe bio-ethanol fireplace fuel – and his website was born!

Hopefully, Heather can just delete the other one. :)

I would like to submit the “WOOZIE”. I personally did not invent this (I could kick myself in the tush for not…) but it’s a coozie/huggie for your wine glass. It comes in all different colors and it really makes a great gift.
And… it’s available at http://www.saltwaterstyle.com

Cheers!

I’m loving dotmine group’s family_time.mine planner, a school year planner that’s fashionable and functional. The styles change annually to match current trends, plus the master calendar that allows me to track my schedule alongside those of my family members is a sanity-saver. I really love the seasonal planner, too — no more rewriting the same standing practices, meetings and play groups week after week. Check it out: http://www.timemine.com

My submission for a fabulous Daily Grommet would be the Azula! This fashionable mat was originally designed to prevent swimsuit snags when sitting on rough poolside surfaces. It’s lightweight and water resistant, making it perfect for use when sitting on damp stadium bleachers, grass at outdoor festivals and picnics, keeping sand off your swimsuit at the beach, and protecting legs from hot leather car seats. The Azula is machine washable making it ideal for catching spills in infant car seats. Just roll the Azula up, tie with the built-in cord, and toss in your bag for use anywhere you don’t want your bottom hot, wet, or cold. Check out all the patterns at http://www.myazula.com

19 Barbara Schantz @ Baby Dipper August 28, 2009 at 5:01 pm

Hi Heather and Jules,

Who says a bowl has to be round?!?!? The triangular Baby Dipper bowl enables parents to feed a baby using only one hand and also helps toddlers learn to feed themselves with a much higher food-to-mouth ratio than standard baby bowls. The Baby Dipper bowl’s triangular shape and contoured interior guide food to a spoon-shaped lower corner for collection in the matching spoon. A non-slip base keeps the bowl from sliding on the table and food in the bowl is visible through vibrant blue transparent sides. As a mom of two sets of twins, I’ve certainly enjoyed using the Baby Dipper bowl and hope to make mealtimes easier for parents and children everywhere.

Thanks for this opportunity! I love finding out what the Daily Grommet is each day!

New World Greetings-Original Poetry for Every Occasion — A Daily Grommet to bring joy and celebration with a gift you won’t find in any store Unique Gift Idea and Book by owner/creator of New World Greeting Cards
How long do you spend in the greeting card aisle looking and looking and looking for that perfect card but can’t find one which expresses the sentiments you want to say to that special someone. Or if you’re a frazzled bride wondering what to say on your save the date, invitations and those all important thank you cards–wondering what to give your maid of honor or how to express thanks to those special people who helped make your special day fabulous. You’re looking high and low d looking for that wedding unique weddine favor that won’t break the bank. Wondering how to pay tribute to someone on their milestone birthday? What about a gift for that special couple who has everything and don’t need yet another toaster for their wedding day? Are you looking for a unique way to promote your business or to say thank you to your loyal clients? The answer to all of these queries is an original poem from New World Greeting Cards http://www.newworldgreetings.com. Each poem is as unique as a snowflake. It’s easy and affordable from the comfort of your own home. I partner with many different vendors to find the format which will meet your budget and your style. As a social worker for over 25 years, it is easy for me to help you articulate what it is you want to express. I weave it into an original, personalized poem weaving in those exquisite details that make each poem one of a kind. The poems bring joy and celebration to every occasion. At New World Greeting Cards, “It’s more than a card, it’s a gift from the heart.”
In addition to original poetry created for every occasion, I have a book of original, inspirational poetry:
“New World Greetings:Inspirational Poetry and Musings for a New World” Do you remember the joy that the rhythm and whimsy of Dr. Seuss brought to you as a child and to your children? He brought me not only joy but a way to cope with endless hours of physical therapy after I contracted paralytic polio as a child. When I was diagnosed with post polio syndrome, I returned to poetry as a source of my own healing. The book “New World Greetings:Inspirational Poetry and Musings for a New World” was borne out of this life crisis. Although I am not formally trained as a poet, my poetry reflects the rhyming scheme of Dr. Seuss. The poems in New World Greetings:Inspirational Poetry and Musings for a New World take you through my journey of transformation. These poems overflowing with positive intentions and messages of hope and healing inspired me to heal mind, body and spirit and fueled my journey from post polio patient to Boston Marathon Finisher!

So come take a journey with me and feel the love of the Divine. Travel to places in your heart and mind and leave all of your worries behind. Turn off the TV and radio and tune out from the bad news that permeates the airwaves; curl up with my book of inspirational poetry and enter a new world overflowing with healing, love, joy, peace and whimsy. Read the inspiring words from the heart of a true survivor; of a woman who refused to give up despite the mountain which loomed ahead and read the poems which helped me to heal my life

Moms Rave It’s A Self-Esteem Saver!

Introducing Ficklets, the first interchangeable eyewear charm hugger, designed to enhance eyeglass frames and help motivate the less than enthused eyeglass wearer.

Wondering why charms for eyeglasses? Well, have you ever tried to get your child to wear their eyeglasses or know parents struggling with this issue? Kids think glasses are geeky—Ficklets makes them cool. Another reason? Prescription eyeglasses are expensive—Ficklets gives them a quick, affordable update. So, if your child is bored with their cookie-cutter, bland and old eyeglass frames, add Ficklets to give it a fresh perspective.

In addition to Ficklets helping to improve kid’s attitudes about their eyeglasses, Ficklets also make fantastic gifts—great stocking stuffers, interesting party favors, or themed gifts for that someone with a unique personality (a customer’s nickname was “lady bee, so she bought anything bee), are just a few clever gift ideas.

It’s heartwarming to hear Ficklets has helped kids feel better about their glasses so I’m especially passionate about Ficklets. Ficklets is also close to my heart because it was inspired by my 14 yr. old special needs daughter Gem, who has worn glasses since she was 6 yrs. old. As you might imagine, at 6 yrs. old, she was not thrilled about her glasses. Since Ficklets, Gem enjoys her glasses tremendously, fashions it with a bit more “style-attitude”, more importantly, wears her eyeglasses with more confidence—Priceless in my eyes!

Thank you TMM and Daily Grommet for a wonderful opportunity.

Thanks to Heather and Jules for running this great contest. I love reading about all these great businesses.

I would like to submit mail4kids. We all know that kids love to get mail and they also love to collect things. mail4kids addresses these two loves with collectable, fun and educational mail. Each month our subscribers receive a collector’s card and activity sheet in the mail.
Each card has an image from one of our 12 categories on the front and educational information about that image on the back. The activity sheet continues the theme of the card and enhances the learning.

Each subscriber can choose to include the Deluxe Starter Kit in their order, which includes the personalized collector’s box, index cards with the categories on them, a start to the collection and a special welcome gift.

Each subscriber also receives a special gift in the mail on their birthdays and special holidays through out the year.

Thank you for considering mail4kids,

Sherri-Lee

23 Catherine Delaney Shaub August 28, 2009 at 6:54 pm

Heather & Jules,

I’d like to submit SmartyPants for the Daily Grommet. SmartyPants is a mompreneur-invented product to solve what I’ve coined as PHE (pant hem entrapment) ~ the super annoying and always unsightly problem of pants getting caught in backless shoes.

Made of a high tech, ultra-slick and anti-static film: just peel off the backing and stick SmartyPants to the inside back of your pant hem. The slick surface eliminates friction and stops pants from getting caught under your heels while wearing backless and strappy shoes. SmartyPants works on all types and weight of pants and jeans.

I appreciate your consideration for the Daily Grommet.

Cathy.
SmartyPants… Don’t get caught up.

24 Catherine Delaney Shaub August 30, 2009 at 1:24 am

Oops left off our website
http://www.mysmartypantsonline. com

And to say that developing this product and delivering a simple and immediate solution that helps women look and feel their best is at the core of the SmartyPants mission.

Thanks again for your consideration
Cathy

Wow I am blown away by all the creativity and problem solving going on in these suggestions.

@Sara…good pickup on the Rambler. I do drive it regularly. Not sure if you caught it in today’s Michelle’s Miracle video–I’m sitting on it. It’s more prominent in our “Our Story” video. Thanks also for submitting your dad’s product…it sounds important.

@all…feel free to submit a product you love…you don’t have to be the inventor or mfr. And we are happy to accept dad and “granpreneur” ideas. You don’t have to be a mom to have the Grommet considered. And if we get enough good ideas more than one can become a Grommet–albeit just one can be the top winner on MM.

Heather and Jules,
Are you always looking for a babysitter? I would like to tell you about Recess! by Charley. They offer child care by the Hour for children age 6 weeks to 12 years. “So what”, you say? They are not a daycare; you can drop in at any time, plus they are open until 11pm on Friday and Saturday nights! Yes ladies, date night is back and the babysitter is always ready! They are fully licensed and offer entertainment for each age group (even parents): karaoke, jumpy, electronic games, arts and crafts, massage chair, parents lounge, wi-fi and they even rock the babies!
Recess! by Charley is a new concept in childcare and is about to celebrate one year of serving the Cumming, Ga. area. We are known as “a lifesaver” for new moms and “better than Grandma” to the kids! The concept was developed a local Dad who just wanted a place to leave one child while the other did gymnastics. Poof! He got a team together and developed an incredible, safe, inviting, fun atmosphere that kids and parents love! As a busy mom with two young girls and over ten yars of child care experience, I was happy to be part of the team that brought this concept to life. It’s today’s moms chidlcare solution for running errands, going to the doctor, or doing anything they want…on a moment’s notice!

Please consider highlighting this concept as a Daily Grommett;- “Go ahead, Plan your day, We’ll keep the Kids!”

Thanks to Heather and Jules for running this great contest. I love reading about these great businesses and about The Rambler!! Too cool.

Product Category: mail/email-order gifts

I’d like to nominate Sock Grams.

During these tough economic times, the need to reach out to loved-ones doesn’t go away, it’s quite the contrary. So as gift-givers scour the proverbial shelves for something that’s quality, different, fun…but fits their pocketbook, our bet is, if folks find Sock Grams, they’ll find a great gift solution.

A Sock Gram is exactly what it sounds like: a gift-wrapped package containing a card, personal greeting, pair of crazy, fun, novelty socks and an added treat, delivered right to the recipient’s mailbox. The adult Sock Grams include a packet of foot balm and the children’s Sock Grams include a packet of stickers.

Sock Gram shoppers pair a greeting card for any occasion with pretty, fuzzy or silly socks for anyone. The growing selection of novelty socks come in patterns and colors for women, men, children and babies. Cards are available for holidays and occasions, and can be personalized with a message. The ability to choose both card and socks provides a unique way to reach out to each and every recipient.

Why is sending a Sock Gram different than other mail order gifts? A Sock Gram has no calories and requires no watering. Sock Grams last the whole year through, and longer. Gift givers can craft the Sock Gram to the recipient’s interests, given the myriad of patterns and themes of the socks.

Sock Grams is a resourceful, innovative way to send personal greetings and lasting smiles that won’t break the bank.

I am delighted to submit the Mama Says, “No More Frozen Pizza!” recipe collection for the Daily Grommet Product Discovery.

Product Category: Food/Drink, Household, Back-to-School

The Story:
As a mother your ‘job’ is never done. You do your best to raise them from diapers, through school and into their first apartment. And then you wonder and worry…will they eat frozen or delivered pizza everynight!??!

Most traditional cookbooks offer too many options and not enough pictures of the finished dishes.

The Mama Says, ‘No More Frozen Pizza!’ recipe collection is hip and practical – and earns rave reviews from new cooks!

It Only Looks Like A Pizza Box…
Mama Says, “No More Frozen Pizza!” is a collection of favorite recipes from ‘Mom’ packaged in a retro pizza box. Inside are quick and delicious recipes for main dishes, sides and salads tailored to those with limited budgets and time to cook. It’s the ideal cookbook for busy young professionals, recent college graduates, and those finding their way in the kitchen.

The basics:
- Price: $18.99 (+ s/h)
- Available online: http://www.mamasays.us and amazon.com
- Woman-owned business (created by two Moms with kids who called (often) home to request recipes)
- Includes photos of each complete dish –on laminated cards!
- 2% of proceeds donated to programs that assist American families in need with meals and access to food via projects with Food Banks and other community programs

Bonus Feature: From the Mama Says website, users can download suggested list of Pantry and Kitchen Essentials along with grocery lists for the recipes!

Thank you for your consideration — and for helping us to encourage young adults to cook healthy and delicious meals for themselves rather than eating take-out or frozen meals — it’s good for their wallet and their waistline.

I really enjoy watching the new Daily Grommets sent to my inbox each day and I respect highly all the hard work that goes into making those videos!!

The Daily Grommet product I would like to suggest is a great new line of products from a mom owned company called Flats Belly Wraps. They make medical grade compression garments that are perfect for the postanatal mom. The smooth and even compression that the Flats belly wraps provide help to bring the abdominal muscles back together again after delivery and weight loss. The mission of Flats Belly Wraps is to “thoughtfully create durable, comfortable, and slimming garments fused with a fashion-forward style that reflects the attitude of today’s mom”. I have been using one myself and am so impressed with how well it is made and how comfortable and invisible it is under my clothing. You can view their line here: http://www.mom4life.com/catalog.php?keyword=flats They have just lowered their pricing and we couldn’t be more excited to have them on Mom 4 Life!

Thanks for your consideration!

Heather,
*I* need one of those!! After three kiddos and two c-sections, my abdominals could use some serious compression and “reuniting”. LOL. My mom always tells me about the compression garments of yesteryear and Flat Belly Wraps sound like the closest thing to them!
Thanks for entering!!
Heather

34 Sara September 4, 2009 at 1:02 pm

I could use one of those too! I’m with you, Heather. My mother always said how she couldn’t wait to dive back into her “girdle” after delivering her babies (she had 11!!) Made her feel more organized and together and her old self. I always acted shocked at the very idea, but at some level, it made sense! She’s passed on now but I think she is LOLing at me and telling me to go for it and get that Flat Belly Wrap.

Sara,
Wow! 11?? God love her. :)
Yes, my mom always wore a little girdle and still does. She’s 70 now but in better shape than most 30 year olds. We jokingly call her girdle her “Piglet pants” because they make her lower half look like Piglet from Winnie the Pooh–heehee.
I bet your mom IS LOLing at you and hoping you’ll get a Flats Belly Wrap. ;)

Holy smokes, yes Sara, with 11 children I think I would feel the same way, what a woman! Heather, that is a really funny nickname “Piglet pants”!!!

I would love for OnTray to be a feature on Daily Grommet. OnTray is a BPA free plastic container that easily attaches to the handlebar of the shopping cart, facing the child in the seat part of the cart. OnTray allows you to place your child’s favorite snack or small toy in it, encouraging their independence and freeing up your hands to shop more efficiently! If I am allowed to submit more than one product I have another one that has been a great, innovative product for our website. The MilkSaver by Milkies. This product was invented to collect the breast milk that leaks on the opposite side while you nurse that would otherwise go to waste. Perhaps the best way to explain it would be to direct you to the blog post I wrote about it here after I used it for the first time: http://blog.mom4life.com/mom_4_life/2009/08/the-milksaver-is-fabulous-.html. Not sure if it would be a topic you want to talk about via video but it is a pretty cool product and we sold out of our first shipment right away (more are coming).

Thanks! Heather

The next Daily Grommet is the DaysAgo digital day counter. Absolutely everyone can find a use for this handy, inexpensive gadget. The DaysAgo helps you keep track of any task by counting the days for you. How many days ago did you put those leftovers (or baby food or breast milk) in the fridge? How many days ago did you change the batteries or water filter? How many days ago did you water the plants or change the water in the fishtank? The list of possibilities is endless!

The DaysAgo comes in three different styles – band, suction, and magnet – so it can attach to any surface. With a simple touch of a button, the DaysAgo begins counting and remembering for you.

A Pink edition was launched last year to remind women to perform monthly breast exams. The creator of DaysAgo, Kathleen Whitehurst, is a ten-year breast cancer survivor and she is passionate about educating women on the value of early detection. Ten percent of Pink sales are donated to breast cancer organizations like Network of Strength.

So, a handy tool for you and those you love, and a gadget that does good at the same time.

So fun to see these keep flowing in and I cracked up at the Flat Belly conversation….while I SERIOUSLY wished I could have had that after my three deliveries. I thought of something like that back then, but never sought out a solution, or realized even a girdle would be in the right neighborhood. I bet all the celebrities are wearing these. Have you seen Sarah Jessica Parker in the latest photos? Twins in June. Skinny rail in September.

I would like to submit the Kowalli Baby Carrier Cover for consideration to the Daily Grommet contest. Thanks to Heather and the Daily Grommet for bringing light to so many interesting products!

Product category: Children’s items/Accessories

How many times have you seen this scenario? It’s a chilly fall day, and there’s a proud new mom carrying her baby in a soft carrier like the Ergo or the Baby Bjorn. In an effort to keep her baby warm, she has tucked a blanket around its legs. As she walks, wishing her baby was as warm as she under her down jacket, the unruly blanket falls off, revealing baby’s shivering legs. Alternatively, this new mom has resorted to wearing her husband’s coat, and is struggling to zip it around the baby’s body.

This is why I, as a mother of a 13-month-old boy, started Kowalli Baby Carrier Covers. After making one for my baby, I found myself swarmed by parents and grandparents asking me where I had gotten it. As a medieval historian by training, I didn’t have a background in business or manufacturing. But with a new baby and no traditional job, I had a little more spare time than in the past. I used it to learn the ropes of manufacturing, and to help new moms and dads keep warm and close to their babies with the Kowalli Baby Carrier Cover.

Here, in brief, is what makes the Kowalli different from other carrier covers:

• It covers parent and child together. Most other carriers cover only the baby, undermining the proven advantages of baby-wearing. With the Kowalli, you remain in close contact. And as a parent, I want to be warm too!
• It will fit anyone who puts it on – This means one Kowalli for the whole family.
• It can be used in temperatures ranging from cool to very cold, just by varying your layers.
• It is well-priced. At $59, it is more economical than other carrier covers.
• Kowalli uses only the highest quality, locally-made materials. Our fleece is weather-treated, non-pill Polartec, so it sheds rain and snow. All Kowallis are designed and produced in New England.

In short, the Kowalli Baby Carrier Cover offers a practical solution to baby-carrying parents who are looking for ways to simplify their lives while keeping baby close and protected. Please view our website at http://www.kowalli.com.

Thank you for your consideration,
Alizah

Ok I just thought of another product that is really unique and plus I LOVE the back story that this mom inventor has. The Zaky http://www.mom4life.com/catalog.php?item=730 was invented by a mom who wanted a product that could be given to preemie babies in the NICU that could be a way that parents could leave a loving supportive aid with their baby at a time that they couldn’t do it personally.

Here is the mom inventor’s story:
“In 2001, Yamile C. Jackson had a fragile baby named Zachary, born prematurely weighing 1lb 15 oz. During Zachary’s five long months in the hospital he survived against incredible odds. He even endured the flood of Houston due to Tropical Storm Allison when we were only 3 weeks old. This flood shut the generators and all the life-support machines that were keeping him alive. Yamile, Larry (her husband), and the nurses kept him alive “by hand” for eight hours until he was evacuated. He also had various major surgeries, blood transfusions, and sustained a lot of pain. Now Zachary is a healthy, smart, active boy, but even though he will never remember his struggle to survive and the beginning of his life, Yamile and Larry will never forget.

She promised God to help babies if she could take Zachary home, so she used her PhD in ergonomics and human factors engineering, her work and personal experience, and her heart and soul to create The Zaky for Zachary and then to help other babies on his behalf. For 3 years she researched, designed, developed, and tested the Zaky in a NICU at the Texas Medical Center in Houston. Since its conception, the Zaky is proven to help with the physical and psychological development of babies of all sizes by providing a very soothing touch, a sense of protection by mom, and proper positioning while laying down or sitting up. ”

Isn’t that an awesome story and product?

I have been getting the Daily Grommet updates for about a month now and I love the products that have been showcased. I think one product that the world should know about is the Snack Sak. My daughters received these as gifts right after school started and I LOVE them. They are reusable snack bags that you can fill with all your kids favorite goodies. They have a velcro top to ensure the food stays in the bag and fresh, and they are dishwasher safe, so you can use them again and again. They save me time and money, and I feel like I am doing a little bit to save the earth because I am not using plastic baggies to make my kids lunches for school. And I have quadruplets, that’s 20 lunches a week, so that saves a ton of bags a month! I plan to buy a few more and use them for myself and my husbands lunches as well! They come in a variety of fun patterns and two sizes. http://www.snacksak.com

Another great product line for the Daily Grommet is Polka Dot Stitches. They make great handmade clothes and blankets with the cutest designs. They are also practical because you can never have enough onesies and t-shirts for your new little one. It is a great gift that can be personalized.

My company is called Scrapbook Mamma and we make custom photo books for those who want to do something wonderful with their pictures, but don’t have the time or the inclination to do it themselves. This was something I did for myself often with the millions of pictures I had of myquadruplet daughters and gave as gifts to family and friends. It was my creative outlet, and a hobby I could do while having 4 babies to care for. I had so many other people tell me they wish they could have someone make something like that for themselves with their pictures and an idea was sparked. I thought it might make a nice little business and when I recently found myself without a job, I decided to jump in with both feet. I have not looked back since and I love being my own boss. I hope I am setting a good example for my duaghters, that you can take a downturn and find a way to turn it around to make it better.
