50 SEO Secrets for Mom Entrepreneurs

Earlier this week, I posted one of Seth Godin’s articles about two ways to use SEO to help your business & website.  I thought Seth’s article was interesting and honestly, SEO (search engine optimization) has always been something of a mystery to me.

Until last month.

Holly Klaassen, certified search engine marketer, emailed me to ask what I thought about her new e-book for mom entrepreneurs who have websites or blogs, 50 SEO Secrets for Mom Entrepreneurs.

I was so excited to read it–I’m a total DIY gal and I definitely wanted to implement some SEO secrets to drive more traffic to my site. But, I definitely didn’t want to shell out thousands of dollars paying someone to do the search engine optimization for me. 50 SEO Secrets for Mom Entrepreneurs is the best of both worlds–all the SEO secrets, none of the cash outlay.

I downloaded 50 SEO Secrets for Mom Entrepreneurs and immediately went to work. I loved the fact that Holly’s book was an e-book that I could read on my computer and being able to just “click” on the links made it super easy & fast to try Holly’s ideas.

5 Ways To Use Google Analytics Information

My reply? Numbers, baby, numbers.

I posted a HARO query looking for gifts that are perfect for mogul moms. In that query, I stated my “numbers”–subscribers, monthly page views, unique visitors, hits, etc. My numbers told companies & PR people that having their product in my gift guide would be a good thing–it would gain great exposure for their company to a big target market: mom entrepreneurs.
So, how do I know my numbers? Easy. Google Analytics.
If you have a website or a blog, you need to be using Google Analytics. It’s free, it’s amazing and you can do these 5 things with your Google Analytics information.

1. Attract advertisers: if you’re seeking advertisers or products to review on your blog, be prepared to tell them your numbers. They want to get the most bang for their buck & do that by advertising on sites with BIG NUMBERS. Stats they’ll want to know?

  • How many monthly visits to your site
  • How many monthly unique visitors to your site
  • Number of monthly pageviews on your site
  • How many subscribers you have (Google Analytics doesn’t track this, but you can track this easily on your own or by using services like Constant ContactAWeber or FeedBurner.
  • Twitter followers, Facebook groups or other impressive social media stats (again, Google Analytics doesn’t track this, but arm yourself with this info to dazzle potential advertisers.)

3 Wicked Good Web Stats Programs

I’m a Gemini, which basically makes me highly inquisitive and on a constant “need-to-know” basis. I love analyzing things, viewing statistics and solving mysteries. That probably explains my love of CSI Miami–I think it’s so cool how they solve crimes by analyzing the smallest bits of evidence and figuring out how they all fit together.

As a blog author (and former ecommerce website owner), that’s also why I love website statistics, programs that show who & what’s going on your website or blog. I’ve been a Google Analytics user for years and I’m still a big fan–but recently, I’ve discoveredAlexa.com and Clicky, two more web stats programs that are, in Rhode Island speak, “wicked good”.

If you own a website or blog (and I’m guessing you do), you need to check out the features & benefits of Google AnalyticsAlexa and Clicky and how these web stats programs can help you with your business.

Google Analytics:

Features

  • Analyzes traffic by visitors, traffic sources, content, goals & more.
  • Customized dashboard–arrange only the information you need on your dashboard.
  • AdWords integration–use Google Analytics to find out which of your AdWords are most profitable to your business.
  • Easy implementation–place a small snippet of code into your website pages and tracking begins immediately.

Benefits

  • Google Analytics is free.
  • Google Analytics data like monthly page views, unique visitors and bounce rate can help you attract advertisers to your site.
  • Knowing where & when your customers leave your site can tell you why you may be losing or gaining sales. It can also show you which content is most popular & which isn’t–that’ll help you tweak your content appropriately, giving your readers more of what they love, less of what they don’t.
  • See who’s talking about you–GA’s “top traffic sources” will tell you who your top referrers are and can help you discover press coverage that mentions you and websites that are linking to you.
  • Help you hone your AdWords-if you’re spending money on Google AdWords, Google Analytics will help you see which ones are earning you the best return on investment. In this economy, you’ll want to earn the most bang for your advertising buck and Google Analytics will help you do that.

Alexa:

Features

  • Offers a series of tools specifically for web site owners. These tools can help to drive traffic, make money, find broken links and more.
  • Shows the websites that link into your website.
  • Gives your website’s traffic rank globally, by country or by categories like business, arts, sports, health and more.
  • Compares stats from different sites.
  • Has a search bar that allows you to “find sites about”–just enter any keyword.

Benefits
