Mogul Mom reader Krissy Anderson asks,
“I have a handmade leather bag business and am interested in approaching boutique buyers in other parts of the country about selling my bags in their shops. I understand that many designers contact store owners and I’d like to really make my line stand out. Any tips on how to approach them in light of the fact that I can’t make personal visits?”
Well Krissy, shooting a fun, creative video is a great way to make your line stand out, especially if you can’t make personal visits to stores.
You could easily shoot the video, upload it to YouTube.com and then email a link to the video to your list of wholesalers along with wholesale pricing, availability and an order form.
A fantastic example of a designer who uses video to sell wholesale is Rebecca Minkoff and her Spring 2010 Preview video. She keeps it really fun, casual and entertaining while pointing out the features of each new product.
To maximize your sales efforts, you could also post the video on your website and Facebook page as a “sneak peek” for consumers. Then, once the new line has arrived, email them and offer an incentive to buy like free shipping or a small discount.
And an added bonus of using a YouTube video to sell to wholesalers is that it will increase your visibility on search engines, Krissy. That means when people search on “handmade leather bags”, Mill & Bird will rank high in that search.
I hope that answers your question, Krissy!
Now, for the rest of you, here are some awesome examples of how you too can use video to sell more of anything – products, services, coaching and even blog subscriptions.

Great post – I absolutely LOVE videos and have been using YouTube for less than a year now and it has more than tripled my sales for one of my sites. I love it so much that I created my own Magnetic Video Mastery product that is free to show others that it can be so simple and is the next best thing to having a face to face meeting.
I will say this – at first I was focused on doing everything “right”, but now I realize that its the imperfection and being natural that will really make you stand out!

Great post Heather! Video has so much potential as a communications channel. People like to know who they are buying from and video helps your customers further establish a personal connection with you. And I like how you point out to have fun with it
Thanks, Martina! Glad you enjoyed it. It’s all about the FUN.
Heather,
These are great ideas. Thanks so much! I’ll let you know how it goes!

Great, can’t wait to hear how you do, Krissy!

Thanks for mentioning my blog Heather! I’m really trying to integrate more video. I love using it, but man does it take a long time to edit/upload and all of that. So, trying to streamline the process.
I hear ya, Alexis. Almost everything takes a long time for me to edit/upload. LOL.

We use video to share client testimonials and educate our clients about the variety of administrative-focused events we provide.
That’s a great idea, Jasmine – thanks for sharing!

Heather, I always like how you always keep your tips short & to the point! I was fortunate enough to meet, get some advice & marketing tips from both Rebecca & her brother who are so savvy, nice and inspiring!
Here’s our latest video, when my mom dropped in one day we took advantage of preserving memories & marketing how Zatswho is used all in one shot, with one take!
Hey Trish!
Thanks so much – I’m so glad you enjoyed the post. That’s so cool that you met Rebecca AND that you’re using video for Zatswho!
