Summer is just days away…finally!
I have had all my winter clothes packed away for the last 6 weeks. Yes, I’m that ready for summer to arrive.
Summer fashion is fun and freeing – it’s all about feeling comfortable and showing a little skin (not in a scary way, don’t worry moms!). I love summer because I don’t need to be layered up in heavy wool sweaters and big, puffy coats. I can leave my house in the morning in my “chosen” outfit and go.
There are some gorgeous, fabulous and fun summer trends this year. Lots of bright and bold colors. Trends that work for every body and shape and size. And lots of repeat trends from summers past which makes it easy on our wallets.
Here are five summer trends you can work into your wardrobe this season:
1. Floral Prints
What I love about this trend is that it doesn’t matter how you incorporate florals into your wardobe, it’s just fun to do it! I absolutely love summer sundresses with a floral print, whereas my mother loves shoes that have a floral print. You can go with what makes you feel the most comfortable. I love this floral trend because summer is all about flowers and bright colors… this trend exemplifies the beauty, the elegance and the grace of flowers. Very classic.
2. Colorblocking
This is a trend that seems to emerge every single summer, but I love it because it’s so easy to bring into your wardrobe. As with the florals, choose what’s the best way to bring this trend into your wardrobe – is it through a dress? Handbag? Shoe? Top? Colorblocking is taking bold colors and pairing them together. If you walk into Target or Old Navy right now, you’ll see this trend up close and personal. Regardless of how you wear this trend, it’s gives a very sophisticated, modern look.
3. Summer Whites
Summer whites is a traditional summer fashion trend. And it’s back with a big bang this summer. Pull out all the whites you have and wear them this summer. It gives a crisp, clean summer look in the hot summer sun. There’s nothing like having classic white dresses, white shorts, white capris and white tops throughout summer, they’re just the most versatile piece of clothing you can wear. Pair with florals or something that has some color blocking.
4. Straw Fedora
If you’re a hat person, you have to get yourself a straw fedora this summer. I love a hat because it blocks some of the sun rays, especially when on the beach or at the pool. This past fall the fedora was the hat to have, and not much has changed this summer… now it’s just made of straw. You can wear a fedora with just about anything and look trendy. It doesn’t matter if you’re pairing it with a summer dress, a tee and shorts, or even a bathing suit… it will rev up your outfit a HUGE notch.
5. Americana (red, white and blue!)
Oh, yes… it’s all about the red, white and blue! The Americana trend is very popular this summer and such a fabulous trend to work into your summer wardrobe. With the 4th of July at the beginning of the summer season, what a great reason to infuse your closet even more with a little Americana. This trend is absolutely classic and you just cannot go wrong bringing any red, white and blue into your summer fashion fun.

I’m 5’4″ and live in my FitFlops all summer – they’re comfy and give me a little bit of height.
Your jewelry line looks perfect for summer – love the cool, watery colors of the beads.
I put my winter cloths away a few weeks ago and I am definitely ready for the warm weather. I love the floral patterns that are in this season.
