Being conscious about how you spend your time not only benefits your lifestyle, it also encourages your employees to do the same. A good leader leads by being an example. Your employees will be more productive and spend their time wisely when you show them that you give importance to your time.
On the other hand, as a businesswoman, we all have to manage our schedules properly. If we want to have time for our friends, for family get-togethers, and even for some pamper sessions, then we have to know how to fix our schedules.
Time management is essential for us since our businesses are not the only things that we have to take care of. A lot of business women also have families and friends who miss them. If you think that you need to improve your schedule and your time management, here are some tips that you need to apply in your life.
Record your time and tasks
It’s a common problem to lose track of the amount of time that we spend on some tasks. It happens because we are distracted or we are not focused on the current functions. Being distracted causes us to spend too much time on jobs that can be done faster. Remember that your time is essential. Every second count.
To avoid this, you can start by getting a piece of paper where you can write the activities that you do from the time you wake up until you go back to bed. Beside each task or activity, put the amount of time that you spent on it. Doing so allows you to track the amount of time you are spending on certain things and evaluate whether you’re spending an excessive amount of hours on them or not. For your calculations to be accurate, go through the day as you usually would and record everything on the paper.
Identify the Things That Make You Waste Time
After having a time log of the tasks that you did for the whole day, you will be able to identify which activities are getting the most attention or time from you. You will notice that there are small tasks where you might be wasting a lot of your time. Are you spending too much time scrolling through your newsfeed? Do you take excessively long breaks that you don’t need?
Try Using the Pomodoro Technique
Some people might also struggle with their focus. If you are one of these people, then you can try using the Pomodoro technique. Using this method you have to focus on a specific task for 25 minutes and then have a 5-minute break. Once you complete that, that’s the only time when you are allowed to proceed to the next task. The time log that you made in the first step should be used to identify the areas where you are spending less time as well. If you think you should spend more time on specific tasks in your business, then you can use the Pomodoro technique to allocate more time on them and do the jobs better.
Allocate Time Efficiently For Different Kinds of Meetings
As the girl boss of your business, you are expected to attend a lot of meetings which can eat up a lot of your time. Your sessions don’t have to be an hour long especially if you only need to advise your staff. 30 minutes is enough to catch up with someone in the office or to get to know a new colleague.
If you need to give advice to one of your staff members, a 10-minute meeting or talk over the phone should be enough. As for your weekly meetings with the whole team, try to keep it short and straight to the point. If you do this, you’ll be able to wrap up your meeting within 30 minutes.
Keeping track of the amount of time you are spending on your meetings is an excellent way of being more productive in the office, and showing people that you want them to be straightforward when it comes to meetings. Doing so would allow everyone to avoid nonsense talks that take up a lot of time. Sometimes, we get carried away when we talk with colleagues, that we forget how much time we are already spending.
It’s Okay to Ask for Help
Yes, you are a business owner, and you want things to be done and meet your standards. However, sometimes you end up doing too much task by yourself which leads you to spend more hours at work than necessary.
Handling everything by yourself might be okay for you since you love what you are doing, but it can also be unhealthy especially if you are already overworking yourself. You don’t have to do everything by yourself. You can hire an assistant, or you can go to platforms like Sewport – a website to find manufacturers that make the jobs of bosses like you easier by providing everything that you need without leaving your office.
Start Planning That Family Time or Me Time!
If you are someone who is also notorious for being a workaholic and a perfectionist, then you must know how difficult it is to start taking time off and relax. You are always thinking about work, and it might be affecting your relationships already.
You are losing time for your family and friends. This kind of thing happens when you want your business to grow and be successful. Yes, it might help your business to reach its goals if you are devoted. However, your relationships with people around you are also important.
After doing these time management tips, it’s time to make the big move and schedule the family date or that night out with your friends. By spending your time wisely, you’ll find the perfect balance between work and your personal life.
